including DOCKER, McARTHUR, ORR, ELLIS and JOHNSON branches
In about 1924 the Telford family moved to Ellinbank in the Gippsland region of Victoria from Tasmania and began farming, principally dairying.

The family consisted of John and Lottie Telford and 3 of their offspring - Ray, Doug and Jean who were at the time aged 23, 18 and 26. Two others, Will, 27, and Basil, 22, were pursuing professional careers elsewhere.
The Gilberts arrived in Ellinbank from Melbourne in 1905 and likewise began dairying on a property named "Thornhill" some 3 miles from the Telford farm.

This was Lionel Gilbert and his wife Clara nee Johnson and their 2 children, Hal aged 6 and Grace aged 5. Lionel's brothers Ellis and Basil had already settled in Ellinbank a couple of years earlier.
In 1931, on the 4th July, Ray Telford and Grace Gilbert were married at St Georges Church of England, Ellinbank, and subsequently had 4 children - June Elizabeth, Barbara Jean, John Raymond and Alan Peter.

This website has been created by Alan Telford of Launceston, Tasmania in 2020 following 10 years of research and explores the circumstances that motivated our ancestors to leave the relative stability of the known world of England and Scotland and come to an unknown future in this undeveloped country in the nineteenth century.
